Galas and Opens
If you are selected to swim for the club team, you will be required to attend Galas. These usually take place on a Saturday evening. A list of the years fixtures will shortly be posted onto the Galas page. If the Galas are not to take place at a local swimming pool a coach is provided for team members at a cost of £2.00 per swimmer. The usual collection and drop-off points are; The Bulls Head, Bloxwich and The Boundary Hotel, Walsall. Parents are allowed to travel on the coach, spaces permitting, at a cost of £4.00 per person.
From the age of 10 you may be entered for an ‘Open’ This is a competition whereby, although you are representing the club, you swim as an individual. In order to be able to enter an Open competition you must meet the required entry time. This can vary from competition to competition. Open competitions usually take place on a Sunday. If you are eligible to enter an Open competition, you will be given an application form by Terry, which you will be required to complete and return together with a fee. The fee will be dependant upon the fee requested by the competition organisers and by the amount of events you will be competing
When you are accepted to compete in an Open you will be given an entry card (usually blue for boys and pink for girls). You take this with you to the competition and post it in the entry card posting box which will probably be by the entrance to the changing rooms. This has to be done no later than half an hour before the start of the competition. Before your event, you will go to a card collection table on the poolside and collect your entry card. On it will be written your heat and lane number. When it is your turn to race you give the entry card to the timekeeper in your lane. If you are not sure where to go, ask one of the coaches and they will show you.
If your child takes part in either a Gala or an Open competition, they are required to wear the Walsall Swimming Club costume/trunks, hat and teabag t.shirt. These are available from either Valda Davies or Vi Jennings.
